ABOUT SHAWN NOLAN

A veteran of the music industry, Shawn's 30+ years of experience includes VP and Director positions with Sub Pop Records and Mammoth Records, ownership of a successful artist management company, a Governor position on the Pacific NW Chapter Board of the Grammy Association, and the operation of a small independent record label. He has over 15 years of experience in the legal profession.

Shawn honed and refined his legal skills at the boutique entertainment firm of Jonathan E. Leonard, P.C. in Atlanta, GA where he practiced as associate counsel for multiple platinum and Grammy Award-winning performers, producers and songwriters. Over the past 30 years, Shawn has had the honor and pleasure of working directly with a variety of artists and entertainment companies towards achieving their artistic and financial goals, including but not limited to The Shins, The Constantines, Sleater-Kinney, Iron & Wine, Janelle Monae, T.I., MOOG, The AV Club, The Postal Service, Mudhoney and Archers of Loaf. A sample of current clients includes Merge Records, Sylvan Esso, Mountain Man, METZ, Wye Oak, U.S. Girls, Andy Shauf, Lido Pimienta, MOOG Music, Japanese Breakfast, Flock of Dimes, Hiss Golden Messenger, Anais Mitchell, The Weather Station, Charlie Parr, and Fruit Bats, in addition to a variety of record, publishing, placement and management companies and producers, lighting and set designers.

His unique experience of having worked in so many areas of the music business prior to becoming an attorney is integral to how he represents his clients in a loyal, balanced and informed way. His long-standing reputation in the music community enables him to effectively navigate and negotiate deals and explore more thorough opportunities for his artists. Shawn is fair, personable, and treats all clients with care, commitment, and respect.

Shawn earned a B.A. in Economics from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from Georgia State University where he earned recognition with Highest Distinction in pro bono services and CALI awards of excellence in Trademark Law, International Business Transactions, and Advanced Legal Research.

A rabid music and UNC basketball fan, Shawn lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his wife and children.
